The Wayman Crow Residential College Crest visually represents the history of Mr. Wayman Crow. His active role as a civic leader, demonstrated by his service as a Senator of Kentucky, is represented by the crest of arms. The paint pallet shows Crow’s dedication to the arts, shown by his establishment of two art museums, one of which was the first art museum west of the Mississippi River. The scroll represents the charter written by Crow, which secured the establishment of Eliot Seminar in 1853 (later renamed Washington University). Therefore, taken as a whole, our crest represents Wayman Crow’s establishment of Washington University in St. Louis and founding of the first western Art Museums.
